Chesterton has been at the forefront of the property market since 1805. After years of under-investment and mis-management the Mercantile Group bought the company, including the enviable brand name, with the view of turning it around.

Since it was acquired, we have invested in the agencies, hired new management, and re-invigorated the brand. These endeavours have seen Chesterton progress from strength to strength.

The Mercantile Group has been an active Investor in the London and UK real estate sector for over 30 years. Throughout the years it has bought and sold, and developed many residential and commercial properties through an extensive network of relationships within the sector.

The Mercantile Group is constructing the largest private hospital in Libya and is on track to start operation in the second half of 2009. The hospital compound consists of nearly 25,000 sq m built-up area and will eventually contain over 260 room/beds. Once opened the hospital will be operated by the German based EPOS and is projected to be the most sophisticated and modern hospitals in the region.

Through its majority investment in this company the Mercantile Group is the largest cold storage refrigeration operator in Libya.

Since 2004 the Mercantile Group has invested in a substantial commercial real estate portfolio in Germany.

The Mediterranean bank was established in 1997 in Benghazi under the name of Benghazi Ahli Bank. It is a private local banking institution operating under the umbrella of The National banking corporation and the supervision of the central bank of Libya.
